Zattoo has 3 million users! (Drumrolls, please! Gunfire volleys! Fireworks!)

First off a warning to all allergic to self-praise, disgustingly positive exuberance, and boasting in every form. This blog post may cause hives, distort your view of Zattoo and endanger your long-term relationship with this brilliant and loveable provider of online-TV (oops, there we go already...). But there’s a time to be critical, and there’s a time (such as now) to get drunk be pleased with ourselves and celebrate successes.
Last October we were incredibly proud to welcome the one-millionth user into our Zattoo family. And not even a year later our family has grown threefold. By signing up yesterday at 6:54:37 pm, Thorsten* from Germany** kicked us into this new dimension of viewership scale and reach (welcome, Thorsten*!). But it’s not just the sheer number of registrations that we want to celebrate today. It’s also the fact that our users not only download but also USE Zattoo for MORE THAN 3 hours per week.
Another thing that we’re proud of (I did warn you it would be bad) is the fact that we managed to crank up our services in advance to be ready for EURO 08. The games were streamed on 17 different channels, and 658,000 viewers followed them for a total of 95 million minutes on Zattoo.
Then, in June, eco, the German association of Internet business, found us so exciting that they deemed us worthy of following in Google’s footsteps and awarded us their innovation prize 2008 (Google won two years earlier). We were really thrilled about that, too.
Now we’re gearing up for the next million and getting ready to turn your office PC into an Olympic playfield.

C'est bien MAIS :
- NT1, Itélé et Canal+ en clair sont des chaines de la tnt gratuite, alors seront-elles accessibles sur le bouquet Zattoo pour les non abonnés canalsat ?

Et si ce n'est pas le cas, c'est certes une négociation commerciale bien vue, mais une injustice pour ainsi dire que des chaines de la tnt gratuite soient disponibles pour les abonnés au service satellite payant de certains opérateurs .. Vous voyez ou je veux en venir !
Sinon, coté qualité d'image, c'est nickel partout, sauf sur France 4 qui ne marche pas du tout aujourd'hui !

Ich muss mich jedoch meinem "Vorposter" anschließen. Das einzige, was ich mir wünschen würde, wäre eine Steigerung der Bildqualität bzw. Erhöhung der Pixel. Gerade bei der EM08, war es nicht einfach im Vollbildmodus dem Ball zu folgen.

@Tracker: Unser US-Team arbeitet ständig an der Verbesserung der Qualität. Ich hab deinen interessanten Vorschlag an sie weitergeleitet.
@Italoingermany: wenn's nur so einfach wäre wie in der Schweiz. Leider ist die Regulation etwas anders in Deutschland; da müssen wir für jeden Sender einzeln die Rechte einholen. Da geht es einfach länger, bis einzelne Sender aufgeschaltet sind. Aber wir sind sehr daran interessiert, nebst den grossen Privaten auch fremdsprachige Sender zusätzlich ins deutsche Angebot zu nehmen.

The figures for Euro-08 imply a mean of 144m across the tournament. This would kind of imply that the magic 3h/week is not hit by the majority.
Also I see that we now get France 24 in french. If I lived in France I would protest the anti-patriotic (treason?) implication of broadcasting in English.

Auf Tele5 (in DE) gibt es nun schon seit Wochen einen schrecklichen Welleneffekt bei Bewegungen und Szenenwechseln.
Besonders deutlich ist das zu sehen bei Stargate- oder Earth-Folgen, im Vollbildmodus.
Dadurch sind diese Sendungen, wenn überhaupt, nur noch als Hörspiel zu gebrauchen.
Bitte beseitigt das!

als Deutscher ist es natürlich schade das die Sender wie Pro7 usw. nicht erreichbar sind, aber ich bin positiv gestimmt und ihr werdet diese auch bald ins Zattoo boot holen. 3Milllionen Abonenten sind ja nen nettes argument.

Für Deutschland (und alle Länder außerhalb Österreichs) gibt es ORF 2 Europe
und Hitradio Ö3. Diese Sender sind jedenfalls unverschlüsselt per satellit (Astra 19 Grad ost) zu empfangen.

You took the olympics wave to make zatoo a pay-per-use service!!
Flickr or similars won't do that. FIickr will last and you will be overriden by another similar service.
You can go back, keep zatoo free of charge, use the long tail model and be the world leader of TV-to-the-PC or just charge the service and dissapear.
Bad news from you side. Just hope you're smart enough to recognize an error and correct it.

@jackinthebox: Danke sehr! Stimmt, die ORF-Sender sind tatsächlich schwierig zu kriegen. Für die arbeiten wir erstmal für Österreich weiter.
@olli r: wir planen, gegen Bezahlung auch eine bessere Qualität anzubieten. Das Grundangebot von Zattoo ist aber so zugeschneidert, dass auch Leute es benutzen können, die nicht den allerneusten und -schnellsten Rechner oder eine fette Breitbandleitung haben.
@andi: leider müssen wir in Deutschland von jedem einzelnen Sender die Bewilligung zur Weiterverbreitung einholen. Mal kucken ...
@Visitor from the Blackforest: wir sind dran mit Eurosport, haben jedoch noch keine Einigung erzielt. Ebenso mit Euronews, soweit ich informiert bin.
@Österreich: wir ignorieren euch nicht! Auf Visualtainment gibt's einen Beitrag dazu. Der gilt immer noch.

@italinalesson: kurzfristig eher nicht, aus rechtlichen Gründen. Längerfristig möchten wir natürlich schon eine möglichst spannend e und breite Kanalauswahl anbieten - und dazu gehören auch italienische Sender.
