Under their own “M-net TVplus brand”, Munich-based M-net Telecommunications GmbH has launched an IPTV product. This products is hosted and managed by the Swiss Internet TV pioneer, Zattoo. M-net wants to further promote its already strong growth in the market for telecommunications services with its own modern TV product. The cooperation with M-net also strengthens the expansion of Zattoo´s B2B business, since Zattoo is already a technology service contractor for telecommunications network providers currently in five European countries.
With the Zattoo White Label platform, M-net is clearly focusing on a multi-screen approach, i.e. on a TV product for all suitable terminals in its clients’ households. Thus, M-net customers can in the future decide for themselves where and how they would like to enjoy their television programs: on the television in the living room or on their PC or instead on their smartphone or tablet-PC on their balcony or in their garden. On all devices, the TV product is clearly branded as M-net. Initial customer orders during the first days of M-net TVplus exceeded M-net’s expectations and confirmed the demand by TV consumers for innovative TV features and the possibility of flexibly watching TV on mobile devices and if desired, even in parallel with their different devices.
For M-net, this next generation TV product is an ideal supplement to their existing product portfolio. As a pioneer in fiber optic expansion, M-net now operates its own glass fiber-based broadband network which distributes today already the house-wide TV signal for many south German companies in the housing industry as well as high-speed internet connections and telephony.
Now just a few months after the decision for Zattoo, a modern IPTV product for private customers has been added to M-net´s portfolio to further expand its position in the market. “With Zattoo’s TV solution, we offer our private customers all important communications services from one source. With attractive product packages based on fast internet access, telephony and TV, we are opening up new revenue potential and will thereby be able to put our high-performance glass fiber network to still better use in the future,” explains Jens Prautzsch, Chairman of the M-net Executive Board. “We undertook this project in collaboration with Zattoo because the Zattoo platform makes it possible for us to offer TV service under our own brand but without having to invest ourselves in complex and expensive IPTV technology. That made it possible for us, thanks to a very professional project management, to bring our own state-of-the-art TV product onto the market.”
Zattoo’s TV solution is completely hosted and managed. That means that Zattoo operates and continues to develop the entire TV platform from the headend to M-net’s own TV applications for the set-top box and mobile devices. With these mobile applications, it is, for example, possible to program recordings of TV transmissions on the set-top box at home, while away from home.
The set-top-box for the TV-Service comes from ABOX42, a leading provider of innovative set-top-box solutions for network operators worldwide. The company with headquarters in Karlsruhe delivers, along with the set-top-box, the interfaces for integration with the Zattoo TV application. Alongside live TV, the set-top-boxes from ABOX42 in particular enable personal recordings in SD and HD as well as additional functions such as, for example, teletext and HbbTV. In addition, services like YouTube and Video-on-Demand as offered by Maxdome are available to all M-net customers.
M-net is, behind Breitbandversorgung Deutschland (BBV), the second of Germany’s glass optic fiber operators that has decided for the multiscreen IPTV of Zattoo combined with the ABOX42 set-top-box platform. In April 2015, Zattoo and Deutsche Netzmarketing GmbH (DNMG) as a group of German Network Operators had concluded a master agreement on the subject of IPTV. “The selection of Zattoo by DNMG as its sole partner for IPTV services strengthens the trust of members in the Zattoo platform and adds to the successful expansion of Zattoo’s B2B business”, explained Gernot Jaeger, Zattoo’s Chief Officer for B2B TV Solutions.
As Europe’s Internet TV pioneer, Zattoo has 10 years of experience and operates a TV platform with two million monthly users. This was also an important factor for the M-net decision, as Jens Prautzsch, Chairman of the M-net executive board explained. “We wanted a partner who for one thing, understood the needs of customers first hand and offered a TV service with the most current features. And second, it was important to us that the partner offered maximum operational stability in his platform and also guaranteed ongoing further development of the entire product. In Zattoo, we found such a partner.”
Founded in 1996, M-net today provides large parts of Bavaria, greater Ulm as well as the Hessian Main-Kinzig district with reliable communication technology. And in the process, it offers everything from one source: from telephone and mobile communications to data center and future-oriented high speed internet. As one of the few providers in Germany, the company operates its own glass fiber optical network in an especially fail-safe ring structure in large parts of Bavaria. Further information at: m-net.de
