Zurich (21.11.2016) Only one month after the introduction of mobile TV applications, the German telecommunication specialist EWE completes its TV portfolio. A compelling proposal for the large TV screen in the living room helps expanding its market position further.
With the new IPTV product, customers of the brands EWE, swb and osnatel can watch TV at home, when and how they want.
By opting for the Multiscreen IPTV solution, EWE has chosen a TV product from Zattoo in cooperation with ABOX42, which is completely hosted and managed by Zattoo. This means that Zattoo runs and continuously develops the entire TV platform from the Headend to EWE's own TV applications for the set-top box and mobile devices.
The set-top box platform for the IPTV product comes from ABOX42, the leading provider of innovative set-top box solutions for operator TV projects worldwide. In addition to the set-top box hardware, the ABOX42 software stack and lifecycle management system, the Karlsruhe based company also provides the interfaces for the integration of the Zattoo TV application. In particular, ABOX42's set-top solution, in addition to Live TV, supports all important functions for a modern first screen TV experience with personal recordings in SD and HD as well as additional functions such as Teletext and HbbTV. Other services such as Maxdome's video-on-demand service are already integrated and available for all EWE IPTV customers.
"It is important to us to offer a modern product for the television experience at home. Thanks to the cooperation with Zattoo and ABOX42, we are able to position ourselves in the market with a competitive TV offer. " says Alexander Kreis, Head of Product Management Services.
With the new TV Home product, EWE customers can also look at different stations in parallel on set-top boxes, tablets, PCs or smartphones. From over 100 live TV channels, each customer can easily generate an individual channel list with his favorite stations. Of course, those individual channel lists are synchronized across all devices. In addition to the almost 50 HD channels in the basic TV package, a private HD package as well as foreign language packages can be added. Zattoo knows the needs of TV consumers first hand.
With two million users a month, Zattoo has established itself as the leading Internet TV provider in Europe. Zattoo's B2B customers - mostly network operators - rely on these experiences and the Zattoo platform, which is under constant development. Zattoo's B2B business has therefore been growing rapidly for years. Gernot Jaeger, Chief Officer for B2B TV Solutions at Zattoo, added: "We are delighted that we were able to convince another major telecommunication provider in EWE to choose our modern IPTV solution. This confirms the trend not to invest in expensive TV systems, but to count on Zattoo and ABOX42 as partners for IPTV."
