Zattoo: how to fix when broken

This is a serious post for once, so let’s get right down to it. Some of you are ready to do black voodoo on the new player because it just won’t work anymore since you upgraded. Yes, that sucks, and we’re fully aware of how desperate you are.

The big question is: What to do about it? And can we please talk to somebody who actually knows what they’re talking about, instead of getting fed helpless lines by a sweet-talking communications chick who's clearly out of her league? YES, YOU CAN.

Okay, your player doesn’t work. So let’s take it step-by-step:

  1. If you get "Zattoo failed to load due to The type initializer for 'xf1881ae45f713d1f' threw an exception" AND have Windows, please make sure that you have installed the latest updates for your computer's operating system. Ask your computer vendor on how to proceed. Uninstall/remove the Zattoo player. Download and install .NET framework 2.0. Restart your computer. Download a fresh, original copy of the Zattoo player from our website. If this works for you, please let our support know.

    2. If that doesn't solve the problem:

  2. Please send an email to our support team and answer the following questions:

    • Which operating system are you running?
    • Do you know if it's a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system?
    • Which error message do you get?
    • Describe the behavior of the player as accurately as possible

    The more we know, the better we can isolate the problem and find a solution.

  3. Worst case, we can offer you a downgrade to 3.1.1, but it will be a bit of a rough ride to later upgrade again to 3.2.0.

When I want to open it, it says that I need to direct download an upgrade from this site .... but then nothing happens, besides zattoo closing immediateley .... so I take (again) 3.2.0 .... and again an error message ....

Our guys in the US are hard at work on this issue, and you could help us immensely by providing feedback.

The more information you can give us on your computer environment and on the error behavior, the more it helps us to find a solution for this. Please send this information to our support.

The questions are:

* What is the rest of the error message after "the type initializer for 'xf1881ae45f713d1f ' threw an exception", if any?

* Did you have this problem with 3.1.1 (if applicable)?

* Are you running Windows 2000, XP or Vista?

* Do you know if it's a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system?

* If XP or older, what version of Microsoft .NET framework was installed (if any) when seeing the error?

* Does installing .NET 2.0 framework solve the problem?

Ach ja, manchmal kommt auch keine Fehlermeldung und Zatoo friert ein und man muss das Programm über den Taskmanager beenden.

Net Framework 3.5

The software that you just released is broken. All versions, windows, MacOS and Linux are not working on many machines.

Sorry, but this must have been the dumbest response after releasing a completely broken piece of software that I have heard in a long time. BTW, the timing is magnificent: the Euro2008 starts today, here and now...

Everyone who ever had to deal with it on Windows XP knows that this is the single biggest piece if crap that has ever been produced my M$soft. It is huge, ill-designed, not well-written, consumes lots of resources, slows the machine down when used, and generates all sorts of conflicts with other Microsoft components.

It's particular bad on Windows XP where it seems to cause ONLY problems.

I hear that on Vista it seems to be little better though and occasionally works, but why in the world would I want to upgrade to Vista i nthe first place. Absolutely NO visible progress compared to Windows XP (unless you call being forced to buy a new machine progress, only to find out that on the new marvel with three times the memory and computing power, everything now runs twice as slow...)

No more .NET for me.

And ... sorry Zattoo ... was it really necessary to experiment with this ON THE DAY of the first game of the EM soccer tournament.

I love the product, but shame on you this time around!

Of course, development of the software is important, but please test your software with beta testers, not with clueless users.

In the meantime as luckily I had kept a copy of 3.1 as backup - I am using that and all is fine.

I would be delighted to act as a guinea pig if required to help resolve the 3.2 / Net issues or whatever.

May I humbly suggest that it is now standard practice to test Beta on the live audience. Those who download it should realise the risks involved, so at the very least should keep a back-up of the previous version.

However it would probably be sensible for Zattoo to keep the latest stable version available in case of problems like this. If a Beta blows up, then at least the user base are kept happy.

I'm running WinXP SP2 and got the error message after installing 3.2.0. With 3.1.1 I've never had any problems.

when i connect through vpn i can watch all channels no problem.

did you change something in the way the client connects to the service? why do some channels work and some not.

Was tierisch nervt ist der scheinbar massive Ansturm bei Top-EM2008-Spielen, so dass irgendwas regelmäßig in die Knie geht und für Unterbrechungen sorgt...

I have the same problem, and I guess many others do.

But don't wait for a response from Zattoo. They just says that they will respond but be assured that it will NOT happen.

Zattoo seems to simply put messages from the viewer base into /dev/null.

There is indeed now a service release out - 3.2.1. It addresses the two top causes of the Windows player crash as well as the top cause of the Linux player crash. To get it, reboot your computer, then download the newest version and install.

A huge thank-you to all you users out there who supplied our support team with the necessary information! And a very big thanks to the dev team who worked even longer hours than usual to find a fix as fast as possible.

I have been sending messages to support, for more than a week, but the "network busy" message keeps on comming . in my case, I don't think its the player, or .net problem. but with the way some of us access your network. as I write this, I am streaming CH-turkey game directly from the TSR website, so there is no problem with my connection. Also these problems arrised before the whole football bonanza started. Oh yeah, the error code is 1105.

Jetzt gibt es wirklich keine Ausrede mehr, denn: gleicher Computer, gleich schnelle Leitung, das gleiche Internet, gleiche Zeit, gleiche Sendung, etc. einfach alles gleich, UND ein Stream funkt, der andere nicht oder nur sehr schlecht.

Sagt mir bitte nicht: wir können die Qualität des Internets nicht garantieren, vieleicht ist die letzte Meile nicht schnell genug, etc etc etc. All das gilt jetzt nicht mehr!

Ich bin nur gespannt wie man das dem ARD erklären will.
